The Alarming History of Medicine by Richard Gordon. Hardback published by St. Martins Press, New York, 1993.    Book-Finder

An entertaining compendium of medical anecdotes and stories proving that medicine has been practiced since several millennia BC and with all the practice and arrogance, Doctors are still rediscovering basic truths, over and over again. One can learn as much from a study of older medical lore as one can learn from new research.  With barriers coming down for Internet access to worldwide medical documented experience and published foreign findings, one would hope to speed the application of proven, effective, common-domain medical knowledge.  This fun-to-read book makes it clear that some of the God-Doctors are really a bumbling bunch. The exceptional brilliance of a few disciplined practitioners has forced the heard to advance and rediscover what was known to the ancients and forgotten.  To err is human; medicine is too-often characterized by superhuman efforts to succeed.

Body, Mind and Sugar  by E. M. Abrahamson, M.D. 1951, 1972, 1977, 1983 Holt/Pyramid/Avon 240 pages. Book-Finder

An authoritative description of how sugar is used in the body and how it can contribute to allergies. Conditions of too much sugar (Hyperglycemia) and too little (Hypoglycemia) are the effects of the body’s ability (or failure) to regulate the sugar level in the foods we consume. This book describes diet alternatives that assist in controlling sugar level swings affecting mood, alertness, brain function, and immune system performance. This work contains case studies and descriptions of the diabetic states. Sugar and alcohol metabolism (alcoholism) are related. This is one of the best books on the subject area written for the layman.

Cellular Health Series: Cancer   by Matthias Rath, MD, MR Publishing 80 pages with illustrated supplemental insert: The Victory Over Cancer is at Hand.  Book-Finder

A concise, illustrated presentation of the concept that microbes invade the host’s leukocytes (macrophages) and/or other (liver, tissue, etc. cells), take over intracellular gene-driven enzyme production, and produce an imbalance of destructive, inflammation-producing  enzymes. The insert describes an in vitro demonstration that a combination of L-lysine, L-proline, Vitamin C and Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG, derived from tea or green tea extract) stops the destruction of tissue membranes from viral-infected cancer cells. L-lysine is known to facilitate healing of Herpes-caused lesions. Vitamin C also facilitates healing, and disables viral and bacterial spreading-factor enzymes.

Cell Wall Deficient Forms: Stealth Pathogens, Lida H Mattman, 2nd Edition, 1993, 404 pages, CRC Press LLC Book-Finder  A 3rd edition is available.

Here is the evidence of the complexity of the microbial L-forms and CWD bacteria life stages of some of the shape changing bacteria.  Illustrated, some in color. Considering the complexity of pleomorphic life, this is a toe-in-the-water sampling of microbiologists’ knowledge.  It confirms the science in our RA books. I remember her complaining about her being forbidden by the government from helping clinicians to confirm Lyme Disease B.b in patients. She was one of the world’s experts in this area of microbiology. We need many more researchers like her to complete our knowledge of this still unexplored domain of bioscience.

"Civilized" Diseases and Their Circumvention Max Garten, Nutrition Dr, Dr Chiropractic  Book-Finder  1978, 304 pages.

A doctor of nutrition and chiropractic, author of six other books on natural methods to restore health had compiled a thorough catalog of the ways our food is rendered unfit for sustaining a healthy life.  Raw and natural foods are prescribed to reduce a wide range of pathologic conditions. Toxins, metal poisons, dental issues, fats modification to produce toxic components are all described.  Vitamins and natural herbal foods are related to helping a short list of serious conditions including cancer, arthritis and gut disorders, to name just a few.  A classic book summarizing practical naturopathic nutrition lore from over 30 years ago.

The Cholesterol Hoax  by Sheldon Zerden.  Published by Bridger House, Carson City NV. 1997, Book-Finder

Our own careful research has led us to the conclusion that cholesterol and saturated fats are not a harmful factor for most persons in the arterial sclerosis epidemic. Cholesterol blood level goals are now set too low and statin drug use is not monitored in practice by clinicians. Cholesterol plaques can protect the biofilm bacteria that weaken and may plug our circulatory system of veins and arteries. Too much dietary reduction of cholesterol can and does cause other harmful side effects. See the rat pictures in this book. Cholesterol reducing drugs have many other undesirable health and systemic energy-level reduction consequences.  This book details 101 so-called lies that are part of the popular anti cholesterol myth.  It provides some balance by citing the many studies that disprove the myths created by the drug companies.  By ignoring the contrary information in this book, the medical consensus is over-influenced by the drug companies paid-for studies.  Using biased promotions and advertising in the form of journal-planted studies, the drug companies lead medical consensus towards promoting iatrogenic nutritional and prescriptive malpractice.

The Coconut Oil Miracle  by Bruce Fife, C.N., N.D.  Published by Avery/Penguin 1999-2004, 239 pages, Book-Finder

This book is a “must read” if you are an older person who wants to suppress and control your microbial invaders.

It contains an important and comprehensive survey of many saturated fatty acids’ profound medical and nutritional benefits. MCFAs are medium chain fatty acids.  Our medical-nutritional consensus is conflicted in its regard to these molecules. One side has long promoted their imagined evils and the other side has documented their many benefits. The advertising money from the US and Canadian agriculture promoting interests supported so-called healthy fat mixtures that do not contain many natural forms of essential antimicrobial saturated fatty acids. Promoting our malnutrition. This book is well researched and fully in accord with our own research findings.  From Acetic acid (2xCarbons) to Arachidic (20xCarbons, peanut oil), the 2xC saturated long chain fats are anti-microbial to varying degrees.  All lipid-coated bacteria and viruses  (and possibly biofilms) are killed by Lauric Acid (12C) and Acetic acid (2C).  Capric (6C) and Caprylic (8C) are especially active against yeasts.  Coconut oil contains both Lauric and Capric, while Palm oil contains Caprylic and Palmitic (16C).  Butter is rich in Palmitic, a precursor to a lung surfactant that controls respiratory microbes.

Curing the Incurable: Vitamin C, Infectious Diseases, and Toxins  by Dr Thomas E. Levy, M.D., Published by Livon Books, Henderson, NV. 444  pages, 2002. Book-Finder  Highly Recommended.

Over 140 pages (1,200+) of vitamin C references collected over many years of study.  This book teaches the accumulated lore of vitamin C or ascorbic acid (AA) as a miracle healer and detoxifying agent. A very complete and well-organized presentation of the many diseases and toxins that high blood levels of AA can treat.  It is a shame AA is not used routinely in emergency room treatments.  The classic last resort life restoring adrenaline shot simply speeds the release of AA into the blood where the AA does the magic. See Chapter 3 of this book for AA’s near-universal antitoxin effects, found on Dr Levy’s website.

Much of the AA lore on our website is confirmed by Dr. Levy’s treatment-oriented book.  Reviews  Also see Irwin Stone’s Book online at the Vitamin C Foundation  Some Effects of Vitamin C.

Dr. Atkins’ Vita-Nutrient Solution: Nature’s Answer to Drugs   by Robert Atkins, M.D. Simon and Schuster, 1998, 1999, 407 pages.  Book-Finder

Dr. Atkins has compiled a guide to nutrition for the person who is ill.  This authoritative and insightful compendium of vitamins, minerals, herbs, amino acids, and their restorative powers tells how they help the patient with serious medical conditions. Cancer, diabetes, MS, heart disease, arthritis, autism, vision problems, dental problems, skin conditions, CFS, fibromyalgia, autoimmune diseases, allergies, osteoporosis, scleroderma, urinary tract infections, pulmonary conditions, intestinal problems, men’s and women’s health, etc.  Dr. Poehlmann has recently been reading this book carefully and it is highly recommended. We plan to compile a better index to this wonderful book and publish it on our website.

Dr. Atkins’ Nutrition Breakthrough: How to Treat Your Medical Condition Without Drugs   by Robert Atkins, M.D. Bantam Books, 1982-86, 380 pages.  Book-Finder

Dr. Atkins was a cardiologist who embraced “natural,” complementary medicine, dietary modification, and nutrition to treat molecular imbalances that cause poor resistance to microbial colonization.  His low sugar/low carbohydrate diet, supplemented with appropriate vitamins is an effective way to control hyper/hypo-glycemia, bad cholesterol, yeast/fungal infections, and many specific chronic illnesses. His diet is based on the idea that all calories are not the same among fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. Each molecule has its own utilization effectiveness number that indicates how well its calories are used or not used as fuel or converted to body fat. Our personal experience with his diet (see Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution) has confirmed several of his important claims. We found that a reduction in refined sugar and carbohydrates led to near elimination of yeast/fungal related hyperglycemic symptoms, including neuropathy, and also led to increased resistance to other infections.

Every Second Child   by Archie Kalokerinos, MD; 174 pages, 1981 Keats Publishers, Australia.  Book-Finder

Out of print and very rare, this yellowing paperback recounts the many deaths caused by compulsory mass vaccinations by the Australian public health authorities. A combination of vaccination stress, poor diet, undetected scurvy, genetic predisposition to ascorbate dependency all combined to produce a 50% death rate.  This forgotten book, if its lessons had been heeded, could have eliminated the later vaccine-caused mass deaths in Africa.  The book remains a near-forgotten reminder that the arrogant ignorance of our public health leaders has lead to mass harm and to unconscious genocide, and later to corrupt suppression of the story in the media.  Archie’s lessons remain unlearned, so our future of mass compulsory vaccinations without ascorbic acid supplementation will inevitably contain more tragedies.  Autism epidemiological statistics [~1/90] put the lie to the safety of certain vaccines; and the authorities pretend to be clueless as to the causes.  They have been pretending both to be experts and also to be clueless since before 1981. Fortunately Dr Kalokerinos’s legacy is active on the web. Summarized Here.  SIDS and SBS are caused by scurvy, infections, and vaccination stress.

Fatal Cure by Robin Cook, M.D. Mass Market Paperback, Berkley Books, NY, 1993.  Book-Finder

This book is fiction, but it is a gripping real life narrative describing some of the typical failures in our medical delivery/insurance systems and institutions.  A two-doctor family with a cystic fibrosis child is in conflict with managed-care bureaucrats.  Dr Cook is famous for his true to life depictions of medicine and of doctors doing their skillful tasks.  One would hope that our 21st century real world is not as conflicted as is this imaginary one. But one can still suspect that certain medical realities remain significantly worse than in this fictitious 20 year old depiction.

Folk Medicine   by D. C. Jarvis M.D. Crest Books, 1958, 192 pages.  Book-Finder

A classic.  A Vermont doctor finds that apple cider vinegar, honey, kelp and other nutritional changes leads to improved bacterial resistance in cattle and humans.  PH is the measure of whether a solution is an acid or gives a basic reaction.  The microbes that live inside us are sensitive to PH and the viruses and microphages that live inside the bacteria are more successful if the PH is within a certain range.  Changing the blood/urine/saliva/gut PH to more acid or more basic than normal can alter the ecology of our microbial inhabitants.  Jarvis shows that sometimes cider vinegar and its antibiotic properties can sterilize the gut and restore health and or avoid food poisoning.  Studies recently have shown that eating foods that make us more basic (green vegetables) can also improve our health. E.g., eating onions pickled in salty vinegar stopped my persistent bladder infection. Medical lore from 55 years ago is useful today as our conventional antibiotics fail to work. Cider and wine vinegars contain inexpensive and powerful antibiotics that are not exploited by the drug industry. Folk Medicine, Chapter 9, The Benefits of Honey, contains test cases of successful respiratory inflammation (COPD) treatments. Chewing on honeycomb (beeswax) will relieve asthma attacks.  Vinegar and raw honey combined potentiate each other.  Honey contains broad-spectrum antimicrobial molecules with persistent effectiveness that have stood the test of eons.

Gary Null’s Ultimate Anti-Aging Program,   By Gary Null, PhD. Kensington Books, New York, 498 pages, 1999. Book-Finder  A thorough encyclopedia of nutrition to preserve health.

Almost a hundred pages of Testimonials. Listing of titles of hundreds of medical papers on vitamins and other nutrient factors. A very thorough explanation of how we age and what to do to slow it down and somewhat reverse the decay. More nutritional data is here than in many other sourcebooks.  However, he has repeated the mistaken anti saturated fat propaganda, without any detailed analysis of the biochemistry involved.  Lots of references on antioxidants (vitamins C and E).  Well worth the modest price of a used copy.

The Healing Factor: Vitamin C Against Disease  by Erwin Stone, 1972 Book-Finder  shows its contents.

This book is a must-read; it is an Online-Book at VitaminCfoundation.org

This  classic book is just a couple of clicks away; you can browse it now. A scholarly, scientific and well researched presentation of the history beginning with the origins of life and how it works.  It explains discoveries of some of the leading scurvy/ascorbic-acid biochemical and medical researchers, spanning a period of our knowledge ending more than 40 years ago.  Forewords by Linus Pauling and Szent Gyorgyi.  Basic science, genetic factors, evolution, multiple applications. A must read for all of us who need to understand how scurvy is induced by toxins, allergens, and infections and how antioxidants, especially vitamin C in  large and frequent dosages can relieve and reduce the major illness symptoms. How it stops cascading tissue-destruction resulting from inflammation caused by toxins and infections.  Ascorbic acid is more like a food, since it is metabolized when it neutralizes toxins, so if inflammation is massive and systemic as with toxic shock, a large amount of molecules are needed with frequent timely replenishment to have any long term lasting benefit.  See the Some Effects of Vitamin C  chapter.

LYME DISEASE (Borreliosis) A Plague of Ignorance Regarding the Ignorance of a Plague

© Copyright 2004, Dr Scott Taylor, DVM, All rights Reserved

Book-Finder

Lyme Disease is caused by many borrelia species. A major oversight by the medical community regarding Lyme disease is that Borrelia burgdorferi is not the only bacterium that causes Lyme disease; there are many pathogenic borrelia strains; many of which cause borreliosis (Lyme-like disease). The causative agent, Borrelia burgdorferi, is a type of spirochete. When Bb was first discovered in 1982 it was thought that there was just one strain. Since then, about 100 U.S. and 300 worldwide strains of the bacterium have been discovered. Dr. Scott Taylor’s classic article on LD is gone from the Internet. We found it entire, with figures and pictures via the Wayback Machine web archive website.

The Persecution and Trial of Gaston Naessens  by Christopher Bird.  Published by H J Kramer Inc, Tiburon, CA, 1991. 318 pages.  ISBN 0915811308.   Book-Finder

"Gaston Naessens is surely one of the greatest scientists of the twentieth century. He deserves not one but several Nobel prizes for his lifework." - Robert Atkins, M.D.

This book describes a fascinating part of medical research history where the medical establishment, in league with the Canadian government, attempted to imprison the researcher, Gaston Naessens, developer of an improved microscope. He cataloged the life cycles of the shapes he saw, linked them to diseases, proved that certain of the forms correlated with cancer, and also developed a tumor-tropic, chemical,  lymph node treatment he called “714-X” to kill pleomorphic (shape changing), intracellular,  yeast-like, “mycobacterial” [Mycoplasma] forms. One review states: “714-X, a [patented, camphor-nitrogen] compound that has restored the perfect health of 750 out of 1,000 cancer victims ….” A huge body of recent research from many worldwide sources has confirmed the existence of chronic polymicrobial parasitic infections and of intracellular invaders that take over the host’s cells and initiate the generation of toxins, dissolving enzymes, certain vitamins, and other bioactive molecules. Living in colonies within our cells, these invaders upset our molecular and immune system balance, causing a multiplicity of chronic disease symptoms. Definitely not the consensus medical view, but many of his research findings are now actively being re-mapped without reference to his taxonomy and nomenclature, and sadly, without attribution or acknowledgment of his significant contributions to science.

The Polio Paradox: What You Need to Know  by Richard L Bruno, HD, Ph.D. Hardback published by Warner Books, 2002, 350 pages.  Book-Finder  Good reference lore on probable multiple causes of neural inflammation.

This book collects a lot of information about the long-term effects of exposure to polio and other enteroviruses. They attack the nerves and produce lasting damage.  Many viruses live in the gut. Some strains like Coxsackie A7 and B, the ECHO viruses, measles viruses, and various poliovirus strains are associated with neural insult and encephalitis leading to muscle weakness, fibromyalgia, CFIDS, systemic fatigue, mental slowness and autistic mental disabilities.  There is a consensus that genetic factors mediate increased and for some decreased susceptibility.  The gut microbiome is complex and the presence of some persistent viruses may block others from colonizing.  Some strains of candidate live vaccine viruses have been found to be so pathogenic to a small segment of the population that they have been eliminated, after trials proved the scope and severity of their danger.  The book obliquely makes the case for caution in the application of live vaccines viruses that persist and seem to be one causal factor of the autism epidemic.  A long delayed progressive neural degeneration  has been observed in many who survived wild poliovirus epidemics.  FMS and myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) appear to be the result of chronic systemic polio virus colonization.

KFP’s comment: Perhaps systemic viral colonization is the mechanism behind the Autism epidemic.  A pause (even a rollback) in the use of so many and so frequent childhood vaccines and immune inflammation stimulating adjuvants seems in order. We need to do a better risk analysis by our best immunologists before vaccine approvals. Serious approval mistakes have been made too many times. The case has been made elsewhere that ascorbic acid can be a potent antiviral cure for the chronic viral infections and that vaccines may not be necessary when vitamin C pharmacokinetics are followed correctly and long enough to make doses effective.  See Curing the Incurable by Dr Thomas Levy.

The Potbelly Syndrome: How Common Germs Cause Obesity, Diabetes, and Heart Disease by Russell Farris and Per Marin, M.D., Ph.D. Paperback published by Basic Health, Laguna Beach, CA, 2006.  Book-Finder

This information-packed book explains the many effects of a naturally occurring stress hormone called cortisol. Corticosteroid medications used to treat inflammations and autoimmune diseases introduce more cortisol into the bloodstream, resulting in increased appetite and weight gain. These drugs also lead to various forms of serious heart disease and high blood pressure because they tip the healthy cortisol balance. Thyroid deficiencies may be blamed for health problems that are really the result of excess cortisol. Chronic infections can also stimulate the production of cortisol to levels high enough to cause insulin resistance, obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes – four conditions associated with the “potbelly syndrome”.

Red Meat: The Original Health Food by Heather Smith Thomas, Paperback published by Record Stockman Press, 1984, Foreword by Baxter Black D.V.M., Book-Finder

Thomas provides a critical analysis of many of the nutritional myths and mistaken dogma relating to meat, animal fats and cholesterol.  It points out the flaws in the studies that are the broken foundation of conventional nutrition rules and medical practice. It is a good starting point for further research to confirm that much of the current heart disease nutrition dogma is nonsense. The dogmatic anti meat consensus has many mistakes and many nutrition rules are a waste of time and money. Her analysis is valuable for a contrasting point of view.

The Road Back: Rheumatoid Arthritis – Its Cause and Its Treatment by Thomas McPherson Brown, M.D. and Henry Scammell. Hardback, published by M. Evans and Company, 1988. Book-Finder

Describes Dr. Brown’s scientifically proven low-dose, long-term tetracycline antibiotic protocol for treating a variety of rheumatic conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis. Includes many case studies.  This book and its treatment protocol was instrumental in Katherine Poehlmann’s recovery from RA when she sprained both ankles and they refused to heal. She did her PhD thesis confirming his work and is herself a case history proving his methods work.  Subsequently, we met or corresponded with many of the Road Back beneficiaries as she published her own book updating and expanding on the works of Dr Thomas M. Brown, Dr Harold Clark, and Henry Scammell.  Katherine now serves on the board of directors of the Road Back Foundation.  See the next book by Henry Scammell, Scleroderma, for more case histories, examples of the antibiotic protocols use by Dr Brown and his colleagues.

Scleroderma: The Proven Therapy That Can Save Your Life  by Henry Scammell.  Hardback, published by M. Evans and Company, 1998, 176 pages. Book-Finder

Describes Dr. Brown’s scientifically proven low-dose, long-term antibiotic protocol for treating and curing scleroderma a specific fatal systemic rheumatic infection, where first the skin and then many other tissues become rigid and inflexible. Chapter 12 describes an 11 patient study using minocycline that proved a cure was possible.  Chapter 7 includes Pat Ganger’s case history.  In 2012, Pat is a survivor. She has been working for many years with the Arthritis Trust and  she is a personal example of the long-term cure made by using Dr Thomas M. Brown’s protocol. Chapter 15,  In Defense of Heresy describes Dr Barry Marshall’s fight to prove that Helicobacter pylori can thrive in the stomach and cause ulcers.  Dr Brown encountered a similar opposition by the medical consensus.  This book, Scleroderma, and The Road Back should be read as a pair to more fully understand the methods and successful treatment using Minocycline, Clindamycin and various inflammation suppressing drugs to manage the Herx reaction.

Time magazine (February 23, 2004) article The Fires Within” by Christine Gorman and Alice Park.

Remarkably naïve, reports that for rheumatoid arthritis, “Something – possibly a viral infection – provokes macrophages and neutrophils to attack the joints.” This is hardly a breaking news story, after 60 years of solid scientific evidence by Dr. Brown and his colleagues on the relationship between infection and rheumatic illness. Illustrates how slow the medical establishment is to accept effective solutions to health problems.

The Virus Within: How Medical Detectives are Tracking a Terrifying Virus that Hides Inside Almost All of Us by Nicholas Regush. Paperback published by Dutton, 2000.  Book-Finder

Human herpes virus 6 (HHV-6) targets multiple cell types in the body, including T4 and T8 cells to partly disable the immune system. It should be well known now that FMS/CFIDS is related to active antibodies to both mycoplasmas and latent viruses: Human herpes viruses, (HHVs), include HHV-1&2 (lesions), CMV, EBV, HHV-6 (MS), HHV-7&8, Zoster.  HHV-6 is associated with Alzheimer’s (22%), Parkinson’s, ALS, Huntington’s, etc. HHV-6 is ubiquitous; by age 45 over 95% show signs of infection. Gancyclovir may suppress it.  Ascorbate at very high levels may control/reduce its damage. Flesh eating bacteria (over 12 deaths in Canada) have been associated with a co-infection of Strep-A S. pyrogenes (scarlet fever) and HHV-6.  The combined lysing enzymes of the HHVs and the bacterial hyaluronidase (aka penetrating factor)of Strep-A (or of S. pneumonia, etc) increase the virulence of each other. This book surveys the research concerning the slow virus action of HHV-6 on brain and immune system as of about 1999.  Much more data is now available on the web, confirming HHV-6 as a significant causal factor of many chronic illnesses.

Vitamin C the Common Cold and the Flu  by Linus Pauling, Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1976, Freeman, 230 Pages.  Book-Finder

A classic collection of information about how the body benefits from ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) when various diseases and infections are present. Higher levels of Vitamin C (2-10 grams) are well tolerated and necessary to fight microbial and viral spreading-factor enzymes.

The Vitamin C Connection: Getting Well with Vitamin C  by Cheraskin, Ringsdorf, and Sisley, Harper  & Row, 1983, 291 pages.   Book-Finder An outstanding overview of Ascorbic Acid (AA) findings.

An update on Linus Pauling’s work, confirming his thesis and providing scientific research that connects Vitamin C to the prevention and treatment of colds, cancer, glaucoma, periodontal disease, pain, fatigue, allergy, rashes, susceptibility to heat and cold, vulnerability to stress, etc. Vitamin C can shrink tumors and speed wound healing rates, especially bone healing. It neutralizes the hyaluronate lyase spreading factor of viruses and bacteria, especially Mycoplasma, which contribute to arthritic joint inflammation and cartilage erosion.   Contains a worldwide summary of practitioners successful treatments of a wide range of bacterial and viral infections using 25 to 50 grams of oral AA per day in multiple doses every few hours.  Discussion of AA as an antihistamine and anti-toxin for microbes is brief, but comprehensive.  Other wide-range AA’s antitoxin and anti-toxic-shock affects are not mentioned. Why Arthritis? Searching for the Cause and the Cure of Rheumatoid Disease by Harold W. Clark, Ph.D. Paperback published by Axelrod of Tampa Bay, FL, 1997. Book-Finder

A disturbing and detailed account of the politicization of arthritis research. Dr. Clark, an eminent microbiologist, was Dr. Thomas McPherson Brown’s lab manager for thirty years.  Puts arthritis in perspective from the time of ancient Egypt, where tetracycline was found in mummies with reduced arthritis symptoms. The antibiotic must have come from beer made with moldy grain. Jump to modern times when medicine took the path of immune suppression instead of bacteria infection control and elimination. Actually both inflammation control and antibiotic treatment can work together for a better result.

With Good Reason by S. Morris Engel, 5Th Ed with Instructor’s Manual, Paperback published by Published by St Martin Press, NY 1994. Book-Finder  Highly recommended.

With so much rhetorical nonsense out there in idea land (aka the Internet) one needs special training in “how to think correctly” to recognize the gems of sense in the haystack of ideological confusion and propaganda.  This book by Morris Engel is itself a gem, an ideal companion to Daryll Huff’s How to Lie with Statistics, to Wendell Johnson’s People in Quandaries, to S. I. Hayakawa’s Language in Action  and Korzybski’s monumental book on General Semantics, Science and Sanity.  Engel’s book is a product of years of collecting examples of disorderly thought. It is a complete primer in logical and illogical expression, sorely needed today when politicians trump science, mathematics, and reason with appeals to emotion and commit manifold logical errors using plausible fallacies. Much of our governmental problems are the result of ideological fallacies and confusions exampled in Engel’s book.
